Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Cloud Solutions Architect to own the architecture of our cloud and voice infrastructure across AWS, other cloud providers, and physical data centers. You will design multi-region, multi-cloud deployments that carry real-time voice traffic between Africa and the United States, define the network that connects them, and set the standards for reliability, security, and cost. The ideal candidate combines deep AWS and networking expertise with a strong understanding of telephony and VoIP, and is comfortable moving between architecture diagrams, Terraform modules, and SIP traces in the same day.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and own the end-to-end architecture for multi-region, multi-cloud infrastructure spanning AWS, other cloud providers, and colocation data centers.
• Architect hybrid connectivity between cloud and on-premises environments, including VPNs, Direct Connect, transit gateways, peering, and BGP routing.
• Design the network layer for real-time voice and media: low-latency routing, NAT traversal, QoS, RTP/SRTP, TLS, and cross-border traffic optimization.
• Define the deployment architecture for telephony platforms such as FreeSWITCH and Kamailio, including session border controllers, carrier interconnects, and failover between regions.
• Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code and Kubernetes platforms (EKS and equivalents) with a focus on high availability, disaster recovery, and repeatable deployments.
• Establish security architecture across clouds: IAM, network segmentation, encryption, secrets management, and protection against toll fraud and SIP abuse.
• Define observability standards for infrastructure and voice quality, covering metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting.
• Lead capacity planning, cost optimization, and vendor evaluation across cloud providers, carriers, and data center partners.
• Work with the voice, backend, and mobile engineering teams to translate product requirements into scalable, reliable architecture.
• Document architecture decisions, reference designs, and runbooks, and mentor engineers on cloud and networking practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of professional experience in cloud infrastructure or network engineering, including at least 3 years in an architecture role.
• Expert-level knowledge of AWS, including EKS, VPC networking, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, Route 53, load balancers, and IAM.
• Hands-on experience designing multi-cloud or hybrid deployments across AWS and at least one other platform (GCP, Azure, or bare-metal/colocation).
• Strong networking foundation: TCP/IP, UDP, BGP, NAT, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, QoS, and packet analysis with Wireshark or tcpdump.
• Solid understanding of telephony and VoIP: SIP, SDP, RTP/RTCP, SRTP, codecs, SIP trunking, and carrier interconnects.
• Experience architecting infrastructure for FreeSWITCH, Kamailio, OpenSIPS, Asterisk, or comparable real-time communication platforms.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes, Terraform or equivalent infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience designing for high availability, disaster recovery, and multi-region failover in production systems.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills; able to explain architectural trade-offs to engineering and business stakeholders, and comfortable working across time zones.

Preferred Skills

• Experience deploying infrastructure in African markets, including work with regional data centers, internet exchanges, and carriers.
• Familiarity with WebRTC gateways, session border controllers, and STIR/SHAKEN.
• Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Homer/SIPCapture, ELK) applied to voice traffic.
• Knowledge of telecom regulatory and compliance requirements (NCC, FCC, GDPR).
• Relevant certifications (AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS Advanced Networking, CCNP, CKA).
